This is Jeff Rose, SoldierOfFinance.com. Welcome to another one of my videos. Today’s title is “What Is A Battle Buddy?” Battle buddy is a term that you will find throughout the book. You will find it throughout the SoldierOfFinance.com website.
What is a Battle Buddy?
Just so you kind of get an idea of what a battle buddy really is and how that actually applies to your life, I will give you an example. When I was in basic training, we were introduced to our battle buddy. It was someone who was assigned to us. We were all in alphabetical order in our platoons, so basically the guy to your left or your right became your battle buddy. That guy was the guy that you had to know everything about. He was the one who had to find out about your upbringing, your likes, your dislikes, had to know if you had any brothers or sisters. That was what the drill sergeants had ordered us to do. Then we would have spot quizzes here and there.
“Private Rose, what is your battle buddy’s father’s name?”
And you had to know it. If you didn’t, you had to do pushups, or you got smoked or something of the sort. What they were trying to show us is that you had to know everything about your battle buddy because that person is the person who you can lean on when you need someone and when you need them the most. That was the battle buddy principle they tried to instill in us.
Battle Buddy Support
Throughout the Soldier Of Finance book, you are going to learn about a battle buddy because becoming a Solder of Finance is going to be tough. You are going to be faced with obstacles and challenges that you have probably never wanted to put yourself through. In order to go through this, you need that level of support. You need that person who knows you in and out, who can help you along the way. Battle buddies are not necessarily your best friend. They can be, but sometimes they can also be your worst enemy because when you need a good kick in the butt, that is what a battle buddy is there for.
For me the battle buddy started through basic training, and the battle buddy concept has been throughout my entire military career. Whenever I was serving overseas in Iraq, my whole platoon, squad, team was filled with battle buddies. These were guys that I knew if something happened, they were there for me. Anytime I needed picked up, anytime I needed a kick in the butt, anytime I needed anything, those guys were there for me, and I knew that. You didn’t have to second guess it. You just knew that they were going to be there for you. That is the battle buddy role in my military career.
Battle Buddy For Life
As far as in my life, the person who has been the strongest battle buddy for me today has been my wife. Once we made the commitment that we were going to be together when I was serving overseas, she was my battle buddy, and I like to think that I was a battle buddy to her. She was someone who I could confide in – what my goals were, things that I was trying to accomplish. She knew the things I needed work on. I have always been a bit of a spender in my life; frugal has been far from my vocabulary. She has always kind of been there to keep my in check. Having that person that you can rely on to be there for you and to pick you up when you are down, to give you encouragement, and to be that motivator in your life – it is priceless.
You need to find that battle buddy for you.
As you go through the Solder Of Finance process and just sort of take charge of your life again, you are going to need support. We are all strong, and you might be a very strong-willed person (I think I am a strong-willed person), but ever so often there is that need of support, and that is where the battle buddy comes into play. If you know anybody who you think might be a good candidate to be a battle buddy, now is a good time to approach them and say,
“Hey, here is what I’m trying to do, but I can’t do it alone. I need your help.”
By reaching out to them, that shows your commitment, and it is never weak to acknowledge that you do need help. Go out and find that battle buddy today and take charge of your life. This is Jeff Rose, SoldierOfFinance.com.
